Guest Speaker
Charlene Collins

I have always felt that the Actors Craft can support magicians in their self-expression and delivery during a performance. With that thought in mind, I am delighted to announce that Charlene Collins, who attended the first Seminar in May, will be one of our guest speakers for the September event.  She will be facilitating a conversation on the Saturday afternoon regarding 'Improvisation and Acting' and how this can contribute significantly to your performance.

Her credentials are most impressive:

She received her acting training in improvisation technique at The Anna Scher Theatre which she has attended since 2005. Skills include teaching, acting through improvisation and script work, writing improvisational playscripts and directing.

Charlene has featured and directed a number of short plays at the Theatre and has won a number of awards at the 'Festival of Plays', under the following categories:

'Most Professional Play' (2011), 'Most Stylish Play' (2009), 'Best Character Performance' (2009) and 'Best Actress' (2007).
She credits her acting ability on the work shops facilitated by Anna Scher, who has taught for over 40 years. Anna Scher's motto is, "Talent thrives through training together..." and Charlene believes that it is through adopting this approach that she has succeeded at this art which she discovered by chance.

"It was through my role in teaching primary school children holistically over the last 12 years  that I realised I had a passion for creating plays, developing scripts, directing and celebrating the achievement of children ...it later dawned on me that I actually had an unconcealed passion, which I explored further after walking through the doors of The Anna Scher Theatre School," she reminisces.

Charlene also attended The Timber Theatre and was a member of The Gutted Film and Theatre Company and 100 Project. Professional work includes speaking in role as a parent on a short video for an internet educational website,  'Jaderbergkrais,' director: Charles Brafman (2011).

She also acted as Juror 3 in the successful theatre production,'Twelve Very Angry Women,' (2010), she played Ms Boye, The Climbies' solicitor, in 'Those Who Trespass Against Us: The Victoria Climbie Enquiry' film (2009) and Ummiy, in 'Jericho's Walls Are Falling' Promo (2008). These works were written and directed by Lance Nielsen.

Other credits include 'Where Has Norman Beaton Gone?' playing his wife and mother, Giant Olive Theatre Company (2009), 'Don't Get Up,' doing a short voiceover, assistant director, Samuel (2009) and a short film, 'Trail of the Spider,' directed by Anja Kirschner and David Panos (2007).

She further adds that, "Attending drama classes provided me with untold opportunities to unlock my emotions and convey them in a variety of character roles. I have also been able to express myself inwardly and outwardly, improve my presentation and confidence in public speaking and more importantly, to have fun, entertain and delight audiences of all ages."

On Saturday 8th September, come prepared to receive first class coaching. Part of your commitment is to come prepared to present your best effect.  With Charlene's intervention and facilitation a whole new world of possibilities will open up which you can then apply to all of your magic and performance.
